Engine codes and ECU
M47, N47, B47. The 320d uses different Bosch and Continental ECU families across generations. ECU type and software version need to be identified before programming.
Turbo and supporting hardware
Turbo arrangement and control differ between M47, N47 and B47 applications. A worn actuator, boost hose or turbo should be dealt with first.
Gearbox and clutch considerations
Manual cars need clutch and dual-mass flywheel checks. ZF automatic cars have their own torque and service considerations. Additional low-rev torque can expose an already tired clutch or dual-mass flywheel.
Drivetrain
Most examples are rear-wheel drive, with xDrive available on selected generations.
DPF and emissions systems
A healthy DPF and correct regeneration strategy are important. Active DPF faults should be diagnosed rather than masked.
Stage 1 information
Stage 1 is aimed at a smoother torque curve and stronger mid-range, matched to the M47, N47 or B47 specification.
Stage 2 information
Stage 2 is not a standard 320d package. Turbo, intercooler, exhaust and fuelling changes need assessment together.
